AEW All Out 2021 Preview
All Elite Wrestling, the most talked-about company of recent months, is holding its biggest show of their history with ALL OUT on this Sunday, September 5th
September 5th. The match card, which was shaped 2 weeks before the show, is rather interesting. Even if it might be a short one, I would like to share my thoughts and opinions about the match card and the show as a whole.
Best Friends & Jurassic Express vs. Hardy Family Office
I hope that the mid-card feud from the recent months will be going to end in the first match of the pre-show/Buy-In. In recent months, one of the biggest problems of AEW was to use a lot of wrestlers in their shows. They could’ve elevated young talents from Dark, and there’s a lot of them, instead of using Yuta Wheeler (a freelancer) on their shows. I enjoy watching Daniel Garcia’s adventure but do they need him in the first place? Does Matt Hardy have to be a manager for three of the “mid-card heel” tag teams? It was criticism towards AEW instead of my opinions about the match but I had to point out that.
Prediction: Best Friends
Women’s Casino Battle Royale
A Casino Battle Royale (just like in Double or Nothing Casino Battle Royale matches) for the women’s wrestlers. As you know, AEW’s women’s division is started being a joke. Each show has a women’s match on the segment before the main event and these segments normally become the least attention drawer thing on the shows. With the start of AEW Rampage, the women wrestlers indeed get more time on TV but I still don’t think that AEW value the division truly. Speaking of the match, 5 wrestlers will enter after every 90 seconds pass by and the last wrestler will enter as a joker. With this match, we can finally see the ones like Riho, Emi Sakura, and Hikaru Shida on the show.
Prediction: Ruby Soho
Paul Wight vs. QT Marshall
Paul Wight, who surprisingly joined AEW at the beginning of the year, will have his first AEW match against QT Marshall. While Marshall is trying to make an impact with his newly formed group, I can say that he lost that impact as I predicted. I hope that this match won’t last longer than 5 minutes.
Prediction: Paul Wight
Jon Moxley vs. Satoshi Kojima
Now we’re moving on to the real stuff instead of the shows’ business stuff. Jon Moxley was hinting that he could wrestle against someone from NJPW weeks ago. While most of the fans were expecting Hiroshi Tanahashi as the surprise opponent, Moxley announced that Satoshi Kojima is that opponent. First of all, NJPW didn’t want their wrestler to lose because they need him in Japan. NJPW will hold their first day of Wrestle Grand Slam show before ALL OUT and nobody wants to go to America and stay in quarantine. Because of these reasons, NJPW needs Hiroshi Tanahashi, and then the US Heavyweight title. On top of that, Kojima is still wrestling pretty great and it would be foolish to question his career. I would agree with this criticism if the company sent either Togi Makabe or Hiroyoshi Tenzan instead of Kojima.
Prediction: Jon Moxley
As we’re coming closer to the end of this 9-month-old feud, this match has divided fans to both sides. I’m more on the negative side because we’re approaching an anti-climactic ending for a long feud like this. If Chris Jericho loses this match, he’ll be in a semi-retired position. To be fair, this match stipulation alone makes my faith in Jericho winning the match 80%. If MJF wins the match, there won’t be much left for him to do except for chasing the AEW World title. They can prepare a build-up scenario for MJF by making him losing a big match. Since Jericho defeated Omega before, he can challenge for the title which they can use on the NY show.
Prediction: Chris Jericho
AEW Women's World Championship
Britt Baker (c) vs. Kris Statlander
As someone who watches a lot of Joshi wrestling, I can’t say that I’m excited about this match. I think that both of the wrestlers are coming cold to this match except Britt Baker’s performance in her hometown. According to the news, the company is planning a feud between Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa for the future. I really hope that Thunder Rosa captures the gold soon.
Prediction: Britt Baker
TNT Championship
Miro (c) vs. Eddie Kingston
It’s almost been a year since both of the wrestlers joined this company and both of them created impacts on their own rights. Despite Miro being involved in unnecessary storylines in his first few months, the company finally pulled the trigger on him and Miro captured the TNT title. Meanwhile, Eddie Kingston cut spectacular promos and the company made him a turn since he was over. I was expecting that the company would save this match to NY but Miro might win the match with a dirty finish and the feud may be extended to there.
Prediction: Miro
AEW World Tag Team Championship
Steel Cage
Young Bucks (c) vs. Lucha Bros
Despite being in the background, Young Bucks will defend their tag titles in a steel cage in what should be one of the show-stealers. I think that the Young Bucks are still not ready for losing their titles and the company could start a storyline with Good Brothers, which hasn’t happened yet, to the next PPV.
Prediction: Young Bucks
AEW World Championship
Kenny Omega (c) vs. Christian Cage
In a different world, Hangman Page would be Kenny Omega’s opponent for the title but the company gave up on that decision. Looking with hindsight, that decision is very logical for me and here’s why:
A possible Hangman Page’s victory could be foreshadowed by CM Punk’s debut match. If Hangman wins in Full Gear, he can face better opponents in the future.
Omega is still far away from losing his title.
As a result, AEW placed Christian on this match and gave him the Impact title to add more intrigue. The feud has been proceeding over Don Callis and Christian and up to this point, it was fairly successful. I’m not expecting this match to take the main-event spot though.
Prediction: Kenny Omega
CM Punk vs. Darby Allin
C… M… PUNK! I still can’t believe this match is happening. Punk is returning to the squared circle seven and a half years later and this match, in my opinion, should be on the main-event spot. Punk’s performance is still a big question mark on people’s heads but the company gave him the right possible opponent. On top of that, Punk was never a stand-out with his athleticism but his charisma and in-ring psychology were the difference-maker. Because of that, I’m not expecting a bad performance from him. As for Darby Allin, he won’t get hurt too much if he loses this match and this might even be a positive contribution to his career. We can also see the next possible feud awaiting Punk at the end of this match. It’s rather likely that he can have an interaction with either MJF or Moxley.
Prediction: CM Punk
